What was I thinking in 1997?

on

A poem I wrote when I was 18 years old. I saw this in my diary.

Loot my pride

Conceal my heart

And cloud my mind

I ask for you to take me

Into the palms of stillness

And into the caverns of the numb

Always ready to love,

Ready to laugh,

Ready to care,

That, I was.

But now that it has come,

It has come to envelop me

In the gardens of loneliness

And in the pool of lust and hate

To lead me to ruthless distraction

And prevent me from any emotion,

I cry for mercy.

By God, do swear,

To wrap me in your moonlight,

To bask me in your sunshine,

To sprinkle me your stardust,

And to reveal to me your unending love.
